Diagnostic Delay in Patients with Eosinophilic Gastritis and/or Duodenitis: A Population-Based Study

BackgroundEosinophilic gastritis and/or eosinophilic duodenitis (EG/EoD) is characterized by persistent symptoms and elevated eosinophils in the gastrointestinal tract. Limited disease awareness lack of diagnostic guidelines suggest that patients may remain undiagnosed or endure delay.ObjectiveTo characterize path to diagnosis for with EG/EoD a representative population.MethodsIn this observational cohort study, 4108 eligible diagnosed between 2008 2018 were identified an administrative claims database United States. Patient medical claim history was analyzed describe events related diagnosis.ResultsMean year from symptom presentation 3.6; factors contributing delay included delayed gastroenterologist referral, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), biopsy collection histopathologic evaluation.
